Obon: Kanagawa Prefecture, Day 5

Today we caught an express train to Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture. Originally we planned to go for a walk around a local park, go to a specific shopping mall I wanted to go to and to explore Chinatown. However, we both got distracted by other shopping centres when we arrived. We explored them a lot and then actually figured we were really exhausted from the week so just went searching for the train station stamp and then headed home.

It has been a nice day. The weather was a bit hot for us though, so we’re glad we spent most of it indoors with AC. We got some nice treats including: some gifts for loved ones back in the UK, some high grade lavender essential oil for my baths and some vegan treats (like chocolate oat milk and cheese) ooooo and we got some highly recommended okinawan donuts in two different flavours! So that’s exciting!

We have loved every second of this week and have definitely counted our blessings for these experiences, but I would be lying if I said we weren’t really excited to have four days of being at home ahead of us: playing our new computer game, enjoying the vegan treats we bought today alongside some craft beer we have in the fridge for such an occasion, doing some baking together and also enjoying lavender scented baths haha. We need to recharge and it’s so good we have the time to do so before I start back at work.

So I guess that’s the end of my rambling for now. The next blog I do will be whenever we have the opportunity to explore again, which may be in the autumn time if I can get the time off of work and if we can save up the money to do more travelling and, of course, if the rate of infection and covid cases drops. It’s tough you know, living through a time where the case numbers are in 6 figures, especially when this is the first time Japan has seen such a thing. Sam and I are going back into hiding, like we did in the UK, waiting out for the storm to pass and hoping it is soon. We hope we can get out in autumn, but of course if we’ve learnt anything these last 2 years is that we shouldn’t get our hopes up because literally anything could happen. Thank you so much for anyone that reads my blog or cares to keep updated with our lives. It means a lot to have people caring about us. As always, we send all our love back and hope we get to speak soon! Stay safe everyone!

All the best

-Alice
