To kick off our travels between Christmas and New Year, Sam and I travelled to Gunma prefecture. We took the shinkansen (bullet train) to Jomo Kogen and walked around Minakami, exploring a beautiful shrine and taking some of the most beautiful photographs I think I’ve ever taken. Then we trekked down to Nagurumi Castle Ruins, which we enjoyed but definitely do not recommend anyone doing without a car, for future reference haha. It was so gorgeous, surrounded by the snow-covered mountains, forests and with the crisp blue sky keeping our spirits high. We took a little picnic with us and ate at the ruins, luckily there was a small sheltered seating area because it had rained and snowed so much the day before, we were worried for a moment we’d have nowhere to eat and our legs were hurting so much. Note to self: take a waterproof sheet to sit on next time in case we end up not being fortunate enough to find somewhere to sit.
