Last year, we arrived in Japan at the start of April, but this was unfortunately too late for the Tokyo cherry blossom so we missed out. This year, we were ready to hit all the best cherry blossom spots in Tokyo from the start of the season and throughout full bloom. The weather in the last few years has been strange most places due to climate change, the result of which has led to super hot summers, more severe natural disasters and early spring blooms. Japan is no exception. Once again, the cherry blossoms have come super early, starting in Tokyo around the 16th/17th of March! We were in the UK recently due to visa complications for Sam, (if you wanna read more about that, check out my previous blog, before this one,) so we almost missed out on the season once again. Luckily though, we came back just in time!
I don’t really want to blab on too much in this post, rather I just want to post some of the pictures we’ve gotten so far and let them speak for themselves. I will be sure to title and date when the photos were taken, for anyone coming to Japan for spring or wanting to track what dates or what time the Tokyo cherry blossoms are blooming in 2023!
Over the next week I will keep updating how the sakura is coming along this year, so keep an eye out for those blog posts if you enjoy this one. I will be revisiting Ueno Park, hopefully at night time, seeing the spring night illumination in Rikugien, the light up cherry blossoms in Asukayama park, as well as some daytime hanami / cherry blossom viewing in smaller spots, so stay tuned! For now though, I hope you love the pictures I’ve gotten so far, as much as I do.
