For our wedding anniversary this year, we caught the Shinkansen to Niigata to learn to ski and snowboard. It was cold of course, because we were surrounded by snow, but not as bad as we had prepared for. Layered up, with heat tech, skiwear, jumpers, coats, hats, scarves and gloves, we hit the slopes, but very very quickly regretted our decisions. After waiting far too long to do so, we eventually took our base layers off and enjoyed our morning skiing. The afternoon was our time for snowboarding and, even though we were already exhausted from getting up at 4.30am to get our early train and then skiing all morning, our snowboarding lesson was already booked so we pushed through. Next time, I think we will stick to one sport per day, I know our bodies for the following weeks after the slopes, will thank us dearly, but for a first time, we were proud of what we achieved. Can’t wait for the next skiing/snowboarding adventure!
